My furnace broke as they always do at the very beginning of a long holiday weekend. I called to see if it was possible to come out, and was pleased they had an on-call technician available. The upcharge for the call was pretty modest, which I also appreciated. But in talking to the tech ahead of him actually coming out, he asked a few questions and definitively told me what the issue was. Two follow up questions later, he definitively told me it was now something else. He also told me that it probably wasn't even worth getting fixed as the furnace wasn't even worth the amount of a variable speed motor. So...I bought the part for $82 online and fixed it myself. Good as new. Saved thousands.
PART 1 Buyer beware! This is a sad story because it's costing me a lot of money due to improper installation, slow response and no response. I'm not sure how I came across Al's Comfort Technologies (formally Al's Heating and Cooling) in Mason OH, but the owner Rich and I were both in local politics so we hit it off. Story #1: I purchased an old building in West Chester and we were half way through our first winter 2014-2015. There were three furnaces in the building and I was concerned about reliability. Rich comes by and talks me into three new furnaces. I took out a loan and paid $7,388 and they've serviced them ever since. Recently they made a service call, charged me $125 and, apparently the problem had just gone away. Anyway, I showed the service guy the other two furnaces, and both of them have the problem you can see from the pictures. The filters simply fit on top of the duct work, i.e. they're not locked in place, so after a while they get "sucked" into the duct work below. When that happens only God knows. I complained to the service guy and then called their office. They got back to me with a quote for $150 each (plus service call) to fix the problem. I was indignant believing this should have been done during the install 5-years earlier. I left a message for Rich to call, but guess what, NO CALL. In fact, I've asked Rich to call multiple times, but he ignores me.
You can count on them for maintenance or repairs. Always professional and reliable.
They are more interested in selling you new equipment than fixing issues you have...they sold me a heat pump that kicks out whenever I try to use the heat setting, they don't return phone calls, but their prices are in line with everyone else.
Al's has been taking care of our heating and a/c units for over 15 years. After a couple of refills of freon and 19 years in service it became evident it was time to invest in a new system. The quote was within expectations for a high quality unit. The system was installed in short order and the whole thing runs and looks great. Installers were professional and courteous. Great experience.
